In Lux Perpetuam: Journey Into Eternal Light
November 2, 7:30 pm; Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, Cleveland
November 3, 7:30 pm; Saint Sebastian Parish, Akron
Our first program invites the artists and audience alike to REFLECT on the myriad ways music helps us to contemplate the lives and souls of others. Medieval and Renaissance requiem mass movements are coupled with elegies to their composers. The performance begins with intimate and intricate early polyphony (Machaut, Ockeghem, and Josquin), then blossoms into the familiar strains of the English renaissance (Tallis and Byrd), and gradually unfolds to the grandeur of the double chorus sonorities of the later English composers, C.H.H. Parry and William Harris.
